The 4th International Conference on Utility Management & Safety 2014

The 4th International Conference on Utility Management & Safety (ICUMAS) and China International Underground Pipeline Exhibition & Conference 2014 (CIUP EXPO) took place in China National Convention Center in Beijing, CHINA, starting from 14 November 2014 to 16 November 2014.
The conference was a major event held by the International Institute of Utility Specialists (IIUS), China Association of City Planning Underground Pipeline Committee and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges, to discuss popular issues on utility management and safety. It was the first time to organize ICUMAS outside Hong Kong.
The PolyU Education Information Day

HKIUS was invited to join the PolyU Education Information Day on 11 October 2014 by the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
On the information day, all the high school students and their parents and teachers across Hong Kong were invited to visit. The Education Information Day was a very important opportunity for the visitors to find information about LSGI Department and the whole PolyU, it was also a good time for us to introduce some professional and industrial information to the numerous visitors.

Recently, there was a series of explosions caused by a gas leak in Kaohsiung. Our president, Ir Dr. King Wong was invited for an on-site investigation and technical exchange by the Kaohsiung Government on 3-5th August 2014.
A press conference was held after Our president explained the following questions to the public:
1. What caused the explosions in Kaohsiung
2. How’s the recovery status in this event
3. The underground utility management system in Hong Kong
4. Suggestions from HKIUS
Technical Talk on Yet-to-be a Utility Surveyor

The technical talk on “Yet-to-be a Utility Surveyor” was just held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in this morning. Our president, Ir Dr. King Wong was invited to be the Guest lecturer.
DSD Shatin Sewage Treatment Works (STSTW) Open Day
Date: 11th – 12th January, 2014
Venue: Shatin Sewage Treatment Works
The DSD Open Day was successfully held on 11th – 12th January 2014 at Shatin Sewage Treatment Works and it has been perfectly competed. A diverse range of entertaining and educational programs were offered on the Open Day. There were thematic tours, display panels, model exhibitions and game booths, totally and HKIUS was one of the 25 company / organization booth holders. According to the information provided by DSD, open day attracted more than 11,000 attendance.
The theme of HKIUS was utility management. We designed an attractive treasury game in order to let the public know more about utility industry, how we work with our equipment and how does the equipment help as well.
HKIUS was granted an appreciation award by Mr. W TSUI, JP, the deputy director of DSD. The open day was successfully completed at 5 pm.
